19.04. On transit in Matakana

The journey takes us all the way to the north of the island. We didn't want to force ourselves to drive all the way up in one day. So our goal for a stopover today was Matakana, about 80 km north of Auckland (daily distance about 300 km). This area is popular for Aucklanders to spend their free time. The wealthy elite have built luxurious villas at nearby Omaha Beach. We admired them during an afternoon walk on the beach in sunshine and 18 degrees.

We're staying a bit more modestly at the B&B 'By the Water' a bit outside in Kawau Bay in a converted boathouse, but right by the sea.
