Wharariki Beach

Diterbitkeun: 06.01.2024

Today we went another route with the camper. From Abel Tasman Park up to the North Spit of the South Island, the Farewell Spit. A headland consisting of sand that is over 20km long. A large part of the headland is a bird sanctuary and is therefore not allowed to be entered. This place often gains notoriety because whales often strand here. Right at the beginning of the headland I also saw a large container with contents for whale rescue.

After a short sightseeing, the drive continues on gravel roads to Wharariki Beach. From the parking lot you continue on foot. You have to climb stairs over the fences so that the sheep stay in their pastures and tourists don't have to open and close doors. So always go up the 5 steps and then go back down again and again several times. It is very windy on the beach and the sand sometimes flies into your face. You can see the Archway Islands, rocky islands that are very close to the beach and one has several "archways". This motif is also available as a PC background image for Windows. Now I have my own picture of it.

Stargazing is going well again this evening. There are so many stars in the sky that it's simply unbelievable.
