We only spent a very short time in Townsville. Actually just to buy food. Because we quickly decided to take the ferry to Magnetic Island. At the last minute, we were able to book a crossing on the same day. The problem was: it would leave in an hour and we had no provisions and were quite far from the harbor. So off we went: Within 10 minutes we made a decision and went shopping: for 2 days: 1st evening pizza, 2nd evening sandwich. Very creative, we know ^^
The ferry crossing took 30 minutes.
We stayed at a campsite. On the first day, we saw Wallabies and gave them water. Really trusting and cute. Some people also fed them with apples.
On the second day on the island, we started early to do a hiking route where supposedly you see many koalas. But it was only on the way back that we saw a mother with her child. The hiking route itself led to a fortress from the Second World War. Did you guys know that the Aussis were involved in it? With our naivety, we hadn't been aware of it until then.
Great view.
guarded beach
In the afternoon, we went to the beach. This time with lifeguards and supposedly low shark risk =). But we can't say for sure what these guards really do when you get attacked by a crocodile .... hmmm ....
In the evening, we watched the sunset at West Point:
HAH! We were the only ones with a van there. Everyone else had four-wheel drive :) Well ... the road was a bit bumpy ... okay, very bumpy =) and on the way back, all the 4WD cars overtook us.
I don't think you can either =)
P.S.: You can also make pizza with a pan and microwave =)
