Off on the first road trip! With our little rental car out of the big city and into nature.
We stayed at the campsite in Algonquin Park for 2 nights, a huge pitch (the car and tent would have fit there 10 times) overlooking Lake of Two Rivers. Even though I have spent my vacations on campsites for as long as I can remember, this was different. Upon arrival, we were warned that a black bear had been roaming the area for a few days, so all food, for example, had to be locked in the car when not being eaten, etc. It was a bit uneasy, but still beautiful ;)
Very early on the first morning (around 5 o'clock) a thunderstorm passed over us, so we sat in the car for half an hour, the small tent just didn't feel really safe, even though it was very unlikely that we would be struck by lightning there. Exciting morning.
On our one whole day in the park, we rented a canoe and paddled across the lake and into a small side arm. The same feeling again: it wasn't the first time for me to go canoeing, but still it felt different, in Canada nature is still real wilderness. The way back to the campsite was a real struggle, strong headwind and therefore also strong waves in the wrong direction. It took us twice as long to get back, only the last 50 meters were smooth again, of course :D In the evening, we explored the other side arms with the canoe again, the atmosphere in the evening sun was simply magical. You quickly forget about the aching arms from the afternoon. A great ending.
On the last morning, we were invited for coffee by our neighbors at the campsite, by Dru and Lynn, their dog Chichi and their cat China. The couple, retirees with a huge caravan, had already told us in the days before about their travels in recent years and we had a very good conversation. Before leaving, we exchanged contact details and they emphasized several times that we (or later, me) are always welcome at their home and that we should contact them if anything happens. Just super warm-hearted :)
