I had been looking forward to hiking around Cuicocha Lagoon for a long time, but my excitement was dampened yesterday by the bad weather forecast - lots of rain and thunderstorms predicted from noon onwards.
So we set off relatively early and started the hike at 8:30. The sight of the two guinea pig-shaped islands in the huge lagoon is simply stunning and worth a new photo with every bend in the trail.
Fortunately, the weather forecast was pretty off - we had a lot of sunshine, so we had to wear sunscreen factor 50 and the new sun hat almost constantly. But unfortunately, we also had to carry all the warm clothes we had packed due to the bad weather forecast the whole way in our backpacks. The trail is 12 kilometers long and if you walk clockwise, it is mostly uphill at the beginning and then alternates between uphill and downhill at an altitude of 3000 to 3500 meters. This got our circulation going pretty well as flatlanders and it took us 6 hours with breaks. But we also enjoyed every kilometer of the route and look back on this beautiful experience with euphoria.
