1,600 km by car - or the journey is the destination

Diterbitkeun: 24.07.2017

Just lying in the evening sun on the beach! Mika is listening to Three ??? and Daniel is reading! It's wonderful here!

And next to us are three men fishing, a little higher up are three women with a glass of wine, sun hats, and their smartphones! And every time a man catches a fish, everyone is enchanted! WONDERFUL!!! See photos!!!

🤗 and in front of us is a sandbank filled with pelicans...

But now from the beginning:

We have been driving a lot over the past 2 days, almost exactly 1,000 km! That's just the past two days - in total, we are now 1,600 km further south! Now you might be smiling about that! 1,000 km, what's that!?

It's not much on German highways, but it is on Australian roads. The highways here can be compared to German country roads. One lane in each direction, lots of curves, lots of bumps! Maximum speed is 100 km/h if you don't have a motorhome, truck, or military vehicle in front of you. Then overtaking is possible only sometimes.

I was dreading it, but I actually found the drives delightful! I was able to slow down incredibly and when we were tired, we stopped briefly and took a power nap 😴!

On the first day, we had a lot of fun with all the signs that encourage you to do just that! I don't want to write much about it! The pictures say it all! 😳😳

I didn't always feel completely safe! There were incredibly many dead animals on the side, including large kangaroos! And many crosses and flowers.

At the beginning of the journey, I was cursing why we didn't fly, but in the end, I found it so beautiful that we made the trip.

The scenery was really diverse. I would have liked to take more photos, but firstly, we often couldn't stop and secondly, sometimes we didn't want to if we had just overtaken with difficulty... otherwise it would have been all for nothing!!!

In the end, the road was sometimes paved and very bumpy - there were many beautiful mailboxes on the roadside, and the houses were far away!! And we encountered crazy cars: especially 4WDs - just as you imagine them with a spare tire and jerry cans on the roof, and very old buses (made of corrugated iron) with bicycles on the back! We constantly drove over a bridge over a dried-up river - a creek - with the strangest names.

The landscape became greener towards the south!

On the second day, Daniel and I listened to Three ???, but only because they were still on my old iPod - from when Daniel was little and we could connect it to the car....

... the time to chat with Daniel, I wouldn't have had that on the plane either! I enjoyed it very much. I could drive through Australia for weeks now, it's very relaxing!

Now we are in Noosa and only have 150 km ahead of us!

In the meantime, it has become dark here on the beach - they are celebrating in the kitchen house of our campground!! When I retire, I also want to do a lot and stay active all the time!!! The festival looks beautiful! Good night to all of you!!!

PS By the way, you can strongly feel the 1,600 km further south also by the fact that it has now become really cold at night and no longer tropical, as at the beginning!!! 😏
