After yesterday's desperate search for a cozy bar or something similar, we were drawn back to our room. But this morning we were also ready for our planned hike in the Valle de Cocora. A wide green valley lined with jagged peaks. It stretches from Salento to the lower foothills of Los Nevados National Park. The wax palm, the tallest palm tree in the world, can be seen everywhere. It reaches heights of up to 60m and is the national tree of Colombia. A breathtaking sight in the misty green hills.
We decided to walk the loop counterclockwise. The first part of the route led through dense cloud forest, with a hummingbird station in between. For a donation, you could get a coffee and watch hummingbirds at their feeding station. The second part of the route went along simple paths with beautiful views of the lush green grasslands and the huge palms.
After 12 km and 600 meters of elevation gain, we took a Willy Jeep back to Salento.
