The Desert Rocks Tour

Diterbitkeun: 18.07.2019

When planning our route, we had no idea that Spain offers such a great variety of desert and rock formation tours. After the Cowboy Tour, we traveled to the land of knights. The castle town Albarracin protected itself from hostile takeovers with huge walls, towers, and built onto a mountain. Muslims played a significant role in the construction of this historic city.

Just outside this knight's homeland, we were able to admire and enjoy the unique red rocks in the gorge of 'Rio Guadalavier', which is also a well-known bouldering area in the midst of huge cedar forests.

Afterwards, we moved to the countryside around the small village of Alberula de Tube. On a circular track, you can admire fascinating rock formations.

Right after, we took a dusty path south of the city of Tardienta, which led us through a desert-like landscape. Different rock formations passed us by. Huge yellow wheat fields have been accompanying us along the road for days.

Next, we headed to the small village of Riglos. Behind this village, there is a unique and touching rock formation that is famous as a climbing area but also as the habitat of vultures. Often, up to 15 of these large birds circled high above our heads, sometimes flying just 20m past us. Besides a cemetery high above the village, we could watch the perfect gliders for hours.

At the end of this Desert Rocks Tour, we visited the nature park Bardenas Reales north of Tudela. These unique rock formations in a breathtaking landscape fascinated us.
