Can't see the forest for the trees...

Diterbitkeun: 14.05.2022

14.05.2022: a delayed departure from Palanga due to rain led us to the last LIDL before the border: buying provisions for the journey again... because that's the way to 'survive' the long drives (2-3 hours): food and audio books, cheers to Spotify!!

The so-called EuroVelo Route No. 10 runs along the beautiful coast the whole time, but that doesn't mean you can rely on the road, see photos! The bridge pictured also posed the first serious challenge: suspended only by ropes and much too narrow - the boys found it exciting :)

Shortly before the border with Latvia, we had our lunch break in the forest, and for the first time the question came up: how many bears and wolves are there actually in the Baltic states?

And here, a forest is still a forest! It brought back childhood memories of hikes in the Harz and in Solingen... when did we at home stop having hardly any 'real' forests? Without storm damage, browsing and moss-covered ground, with many animals and the typical forest smell... we were so fascinated that we almost missed the border marker, which was completely hidden in the forest. We made it to Latvia and today's ride makes us really eager for more! More nature, more peace and quiet, more contact with the local population, and more wild animals... well, maybe semi-wild - fallow deer and cranes, like today, are enough :)

In Lithuania, we are left with the impression of beautiful landscapes, a developing and expensive infrastructure, and a reserved but friendly population. A smile or a 'hi' in the street is practically nonexistent - not to take it personally.

Ar labu nakti - good night from Latvia!
