Where were we left off?... Quad biking. The quad bike ride into the sunset was 'huere mega ultra geil' for Näthu and 'no easy' for me. The difference in evaluation lies surely in the fact that the 'girls' mostly had to drive very slow, while the 'boys' were allowed to do quick extra rounds. Everyone - including the men - found this quite sexist, but it was still nice to drive through small villages into the sunset. The children in the villages were so happy that they even hugged us and gave us flowers. We ended the evening with karaoke and drinks in the Pub Street.
We then wanted to pick up our passports at the hotel (because the safe was broken, they told us it's better to leave them there), but the passports were gone - quote: 'ehm talk to your group leader'. We then found out that guests before us had forgotten their passports and sent a taxi driver to pick them up. However, the reception gave him the wrong ones (WTF - YOU HAD ONE JOB!). Well.. of course we were quite nervous and the reaction of everyone involved was unprofessional (='just chill'). No one apologized. Fortunately, the driver was in Phnom Penh, where we finally got them this morning!
On the way to the capital, we visited a 'floating village', which was quite impressive. The houses are built on 6-meter high (not very stable) wooden poles, because in the rainy season the river rises (by 6 meters) and the village can only be navigated by boats. We then continued to a lake, where people live on floating houses all year round and solely rely on fishing for a living. That was very impressive! We made another stop at a market where fried spiders are cooked. We could hold the spiders and I find them quite fluffy and cute.
The capital of Cambodia is quite dirty and since I (Barbara) saw some (two) rats, Näthu now has to search everything (including the hotel room) for rats (see picture).
Today we also visited the Killing Fields and learned more about Cambodia's history. We want to write a separate post about it because it's really sad and doesn't belong in this semi-ironic blog post here.
With that, good night and bye bye.
