Copacabana and the island dream, Bolivia

Објављено: 05.11.2016

We are invited in Copapati in a community. At first we felt quite comfortable, cooked for the people and yes, cleaned up the house a bit. Somehow it got weirder day by day. We got up at half past 5, had breakfast and worked. Making mud bricks, building a beehive, shoveling sand and cutting grass were part of our tasks. The work was actually quite nice, but the atmosphere in the house was simply difficult to bear. Ernst, our Couchsurfer, who lives with seven pigeons, apparently needs translators and a mediator, everything was a bit uncertain and he is in a state of suspension, so we were his little helpers, which was nice for a couple of days. But then we both knew, we have to get out of here and so we hiked to Copacabana, where we are staying in a nice hostel, Inkaroka (owned by Alfredeo, the nice gentleman who also owns the house where we worked). We sit on beautiful rooftop terraces, get sunburned right away, stroll through the market and enjoy sunrises.
Today we are going to Isla del Sol, where we will celebrate Iris's birthday - yippee.

Isla del sol or isla de chanchos, Island of the Pigs!
The pigs here are actually doing very well, they run freely on the beach- yes, they run, they fight with the dogs and with each other too, and they take baths in the lake, it's really a pleasure to observe this 😉
We will stay two nights on the island (patrte norte), enjoy the beach and the beautiful view. We also celebrate Iris's birthday, which starts with rum for breakfast and ends with lovely conversations under a magnificent starry sky. We meet a few funny little people who travel with a bunch of juggling props and a cat. We spend a few nice hours with them 😉 On the third morning, we pack our bags and hike for about three hours to the southern part of the island. On the way, we pass a beach that feels like a Caribbean dream. But as soon as we arrive at the southern part of the island, we decide that we don't want to stay here and take a boat back to Copacabana. Back on the mainland, it feels like we're back home and we look back on our trip with beautiful memories! Today's project is 'hospital' because I have had some hard thing growing under my skin for four weeks now. But since it's All Saints' Day today and people go to the cemetery with bread, the deceased's favorite food, and kites, it won't work out today- well, then tomorrow! We spend a few hours in a cafe with internet and are invited by a nice Venezuelan street worker to a few glasses of tequila - also good 🙂
A brilliant sunset with music and chatting decorates our evening. On the way home, we treat ourselves to a cocoa, a stuffed banana and our favorite street food - papa rellena!

Tomorrow we will continue to La Paz, hasta pronto amigos !!!
