Jacaranda time in the city

Објављено: 21.11.2022

In November, jacaranda trees bloom all over the city of Buenos Aires, turning everything purple.

During another walk through the city, you usually come across a demonstration or even several around the Obelisco. Continuing through the city, passing by the building on 9 de Julio street with Eva Peron's face. The Palacio Barolo on Avenida de Mayo is a well-known office building where influential businessmen have their offices and it pays homage to Dante Alighieri's 'Divine Comedy'. The architectural style is a mixture of neo-romanticism, neo-gothic, and an Indian-style dome that represents the tantric union between Dante and Beatrice, the protagonists of the Divine Comedy. The building is divided into three parts: Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven, with a lighthouse at the top with 300,000 candles.

Until the 1930s, it was the tallest building in the city. The view from the top is said to be admirable. Unfortunately, there was no guided tour at that time, we could only go up for brunch for 5,000 pesos. But since we had just eaten, that wasn't an option. Another time then...

So we continue along Calle Florida, where there are lots of people standing around, approaching every supposed tourist and shouting 'Cambio, cambio', trying to exchange money. Some of them, especially the women, don't look like they want to exchange money, but like they're from a different profession with crop tops, makeup, etc.

Then we enter a small gallery that looks very inconspicuous. There, you can take an elevator up to the Mirador of Galeria Guemes for 500 pesos and enjoy a panoramic view of Buenos Aires. We could even see the sea and the coast of Uruguay. There is no 13th floor in the building itself (hence the picture of the elevator). Around the building, you can see different architectural styles from brutalism to French architecture to neoclassicism... a beautiful ending for a morning in the city...
