Finally on a Caribbean island: Holbox!

Finally on Holbox - Holbox was the reason why we even came up with the idea of continuing to travel to Mexico from Costa Rica. Although we were already on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica in Puerto Viejo, we still lacked the right 'Caribbean feeling' until then.

Josi really wanted to go to a small Caribbean island. By chance, while talking to a couple from Switzerland in Costa Rica, we heard about Holbox in Mexico. Holbox was supposed to be a dream island: white beaches, turquoise water, flamingos, no cars, but instead palm trees, sun, live music, etc. Everything that we somehow associated with the term 'paradise'.

After some consideration, we quickly decided to continue our journey from Costa Rica to Mexico, without really knowing much about Mexico: good food, ruins, and HOLBOX!

Holbox has raised high expectations for us, and to anticipate that: this island has even exceeded those expectations.

If you ask us now what our favorite destination on our journey so far was, Holbox comes up at least once (Josi). On Stefan's ranking, the island is also at the top, but he can't commit 100% to that. ;)

Now you're probably wondering why we liked Holbox so much?

Holbox is an island where you can just 'be' - relax, go with the flow, enjoy the time without planning, and especially without feeling guilty about missing any sights.

We spent our time on Holbox on the island's dream beaches, on the roof of our accommodation, with a bike tour around the island, with a boat tour where we saw, among other things, flamingos, and with visits to relaxed bars and restaurants with live music, Stefan playing volleyball with locals in the marketplace, and with a pretty good escape room.

It has been a few days since our stay, but we already knew immediately after leaving that we have to come back. And indeed, we will return to the island at the end of June and meet our Spanish friend Diego again, whom we were with in Tulum and Bacalar.

We're really looking forward to it!
