We are repeatedly awakened by the rain at night, which patters loudly on the metal roof. It reminds us of Mühlenbarbek, where we once slept in a construction trailer for 3 nights back in October. Later, we find out there were even severe hail showers.
We sleep until 9:30 and leave for the bison tour 🦬 with ranch owner Leo at 10:15.
He tells us everything about bison herds, hierarchy, bulls, and cows. He currently has about 20 of them. Super cool animals! They look very peaceful - as long as you stay on the other side of the fence 😅 Leo also talks about large wild birds, like the Canadian condor 🦅
It gets warmer, and the sun comes out. Leo demonstrates how to make fire and shows us his other animals (cats, chickens, and rabbits).
Afterwards, we enjoy our second breakfast with scrambled eggs and cheese toast from the grill.
Then good news: Our rafting is happening! Even though it's hailing very heavily right before the briefing! Initially pea-sized, then more like raspberry-sized, the hailstones drum against the overhang much like they did at night. With 9 boats, we take a short bus ride down the 'Kicking Horse River' - rafting level 3-4. Hail and thunderstorms won't stop us, and it’s so much fun. We're in the boat with 2 Englishmen and 2 Canadians from Ontario. Jess navigates 👌
Afterward, we make a deal with the two Canadians and split the price for the photos/videos 😅
We stop at IGA for our dinner. Once again, we whip up a gourmet dinner in the wooden wagon 🥰 But first, we say hello to the bison grazing right next to our wagon in the evening.🦬
Tired from the long day in the fresh air, we head to bed - tomorrow we continue east 😉
