The Isla del Cano is a small island off the west coast of Costa Rica in the Pacific Ocean and is part of a protected national park. The island is known for its spectacular underwater biodiversity. It's no wonder that the island is among the best diving spots in the world.
We started our tour in the morning just before 7 at the diving school 'Costa Rica Dive and Surf' in Uvita. We were warmly welcomed with coffee and banana bread, and our Divemaster Ian helped us put together the appropriate equipment. After we had our equipment ready and went through the briefing, we set off on foot to our boat, which was waiting for us on the beach of Ballena National Park. The ride from the mainland to the island took about 60 minutes, and we enjoyed the bright sun and the deep blue Pacific Ocean on the way to Cano Island. Upon arriving at the island, we started right away. With our Divemaster Ian and three other divers, we jumped directly into the water from the boat and descended about 20 meters. In the first few minutes, a magical world full of corals and marine creatures revealed itself to us! During the first dive, we encountered several whitetip reef sharks, sea turtles, octopuses, sea snakes, moray eels, and of course many colorful fish. During the second dive, we encountered various types of rays, a small group of tuna, more whitetip reef sharks, lobsters, sea snails, shrimps, and much more. Cano Island is truly a diving paradise, and it was an unforgettable experience for us!
