This weekend we went to the Crocodile jumping at the Adelaide River, which is 100km away. There, we took a boat tour. The tour lasted one hour and cost $50 per person - definitely worth it! We brought Jenny from Düsseldorf with us. Additionally, we met up with four other travelers (two Canadians and two Germans). It was a fun group. :)
The ranger led us onto the boat through a bridge, where we received safety instructions (no jumping into the water, keep hands and head inside the boat, etc.). He also mentioned that there are enough life jackets on board, but they wouldn't help if we fell overboard, so we didn't need to wear them. We traveled along the river and were able to spot crocodiles and birds in the mangroves. The ranger attracted the crocodiles with fresh meat, allowing us to observe them up close. They are truly impressive animals, especially when you learn interesting facts about them. For example, crocodiles have no natural predators and their blood is 40 times thicker than that of humans. Crocodiles are among the oldest creatures on Earth and can grow up to 7m long - the largest one we saw was 6m long, weighed 1 ton, and was 90 years old.
At times, it was also a bit frightening because the crocodiles came very close. Unfortunately, Padi didn't want to switch seats during the ride (I really wanted to sit on the outside at the beginning 😣😀).
After the crocodile tour, we drove 40km to the Berry Springs National Park to cool off. After refreshing ourselves in the water, we lay down in the sun, exchanged travel experiences, listened to music, and played frisbee (Padi definitely has more talent than me).
An impressive day that somewhat makes up for what we're missing in Germany (such as weddings, birthdays, and pregnancies). We always get extremely excited when we receive pictures and videos, and of course, we love getting updates through phone calls! 💞🤗
