Day 29 - October 2nd, 2023 Gergetier Trinity Church and drive to Gori

In the morning we can experience the Kasbeck in all its splendor for the first time. How fortunate. Unfortunately, it rains afterwards. So we end the hike and drive by car to the Gergetier Trinity Church. It dates back to the 14th century and has been open again for religious ceremonies since the political change in the early 1990s. Then we drive along the military road to the border crossing into Russia, pay a visit to the Dariali monastery complex and then head back again. At the top of the Kreuzpass we are in the clouds, but as the altitude decreases the weather improves and it becomes warmer. Our travel planning, tailored to the rain, allows us to drive to Gori, Stalin's birthplace, today. Just outside we find a simple parking space and meet a German emigrant couple with two little girls. They have a 7.5 ton delivery truck and a caravan, which are all their belongings. They don't speak the language and the children are taught by their mother. Is everything going so well?
