Über’s Wochenende nach Straßburg

Објављено: 14.03.2022

When it gets cold and grey again in November, I always want to get away from the grey, or at least have a change of scenery. To escape all this frustration, I decided to spend a nice weekend in Strasbourg. In this blog post, I will tell you about everything I did and experienced during this weekend.

I chose to visit the city of Strasbourg for my weekend trip because it is easy to reach by train and does not take long. The journey was quick and easy, and soon I was standing in the main square of Strasbourg.
Since I didn't want to plan a fixed program this time, I just let myself wander through the streets of the city to get a first impression.

The Cathedral

Of course, while strolling through the streets, the first thing I noticed was the huge cathedral of Strasbourg, which is located in the city center. I promptly went inside the cathedral and couldn't resist climbing up a tower to the "roof" of the cathedral. The view over the city is truly breathtaking. That is something I can only recommend when visiting Strasbourg, to see the cathedral.

Petite France

The small district "Petite France", where fishermen, millers, and tanners used to live, is picturesque. You can really feel the flair when walking along the bridges and admiring the beautiful houses. It is definitely worth planning some time to stroll around and enjoy a coffee (with some luck even outside in the sun).

The European Parliament

I am very interested in politics and I also believe that as a European, you should visit the Parliament at least once! That's why I used my weekend trip for further education and visited the European Parliament. Really impressive! I can only recommend a guided tour of the Parliament. You get more information and, in my opinion, a better overview of all the institutions and the parliamentary system in general.

The University of Strasbourg

Maybe not the typical "sight", but still worth seeing: The University of Strasbourg. Originally, the university was a gymnasium founded in the 16th century. Until the French Revolution, the university remained largely German-speaking, and only after that was it integrated into the French higher education system. In the 19th century, the university was re-established.

Boat Tour through Strasbourg

One thing you shouldn't miss when staying in Strasbourg: A boat tour. There are different tours, but I can recommend the longer tour - you will definitely not be bored. The tour takes you through the city center and, if you book the longer tour, also through the district with the European Parliament. It is a great way to explore the city from a different perspective.
