Buenos Aires - Córdoba

Објављено: 26.11.2018

After an incredibly long bus ride, I finally arrived in Buenos Aires around 8:30 am. The hostel was fully booked and there was quite a chaos. Check-in was not until 3:00 pm. However, I was able to shower in a bathroom in the basement, so I could spend the whole day in the city without having to return to the hostel in the afternoon. At 11:00 am, a guide picked us up for a free walking tour of Buenos Aires. The tour did not take us to the usual tourist spots like the Government House "La Casa Rosada" or the "Teatro Colon".

We walked towards the north of the city, passing by the National Congress to one of the first skyscrapers, whose twin is located in Montevideo, to the Waterhouse, and to a bookstore inside an old theater. The guide also showed us "the green island" near the city library. "The rich" residents live on "the green island". It is so quiet there that you can hear birds singing, even though the main road is just a few meters away. In the afternoon, I visited La Recoleta Cemetery, which has some very unique tombs.

The next morning, I took an Uber to Teatro Colon to buy a ticket for a tour. However, I could only join the tour at 3:00 pm, so I strolled around the city for a bit. Teatro Colon, named after Christopher Columbus, was built from 1889 to 1908 by architects Francesco Tamburini, Angelo Ferrari, Victor Meano, and Julio Dormal. It opened on May 25, 1908 with the opera Aida by Giuseppe Verdi. The theater has 2,500 seats and 1,000 standing places. It is incredibly beautiful, both inside and outside. Even though the guide rushed through his script, it was amazing to see this grandeur.

In the evening, I took an overnight bus to Córdoba. I spent 3 days in Córdoba. I stayed in a beautiful and luxurious hostel with a pool. Córdoba is a very pretty city, dotted with many small courtyards where bars and restaurants are located. I spent my evenings there with a Canadian girl whom I met at the hostel.
