For Monday and Tuesday, there are a few more miles on the plan. Effectively, there are hardly any cities behind San Antonio towards the Mexican border. Instead, about 1000km of typical Texan landscape like you know it from any Western. Rough ground, huge ranches on the left and right of the road, and endless prairie. Just something completely different than what we had in the past few days. The first 🌵 cacti appeared and our overnight campground in Alpine even warned us about the 'Tarantula'. Earlier that day, we drove along the Mexican border and the Rio Grande. In doing so, we discovered a beautiful picnic area. A massive bridge provided a great backdrop for photos, and all day long we expected to meet Indians, but so far only a few pale faces.
Today on Tuesday, we completed the stage and advanced to El Paso. A small sandstorm, dropping temperatures, and even rain couldn't stop us from taking over the El Paso Outlet Stores. And we made some good purchases. My highlight was a $400 leather jacket that I got for $75.. and I am very happy.
We also got a glimpse of Mexico, El Paso borders it directly. However, neither El Paso nor what we saw of Mexico was particularly recommendable. Nevertheless, we did some good shopping :-)
We found ourselves another Walmart to stay overnight and have now left the fantastic state of Texas and are now in New Mexico!!!
