Day 9 - Midway
Well, if it rains for the first time on the ninth day and only while we're sitting in the car, you really can't complain.😊
But five hours of driving, four of which on country roads... Phew, it's dragging on...🙄
We made a stop at Rundāle Palace, a little below Riga. Oh yeah, we're back in Latvia.😉
The palace, the park: Yeah, it's nice...😏 You're a bit spoiled. Schönbrunn and all...😎👑
The duke's bathtub was interesting!😊🛁
Our hotel is located in Sigulda, east of Riga, in the Gauja National Park. The Gauja River meanders through the forest and canyons in a very natural way. We made a quick stop at Gutman's Cave. The largest cave in Latvia, even in the Baltics!🤓 But it's only 10 meters high and 19 meters deep...😁 However, it's not famous for its 'sensational' dimensions, but for the rock carvings.✏📜💘 The first signs date back to the 17th century. Many visitors have left their mark here, including hearts. You can actually see inscriptions from the 18th century.🔎 Today, the cave is a natural monument, and carving is no longer allowed. But whether everyone follows the rules...?🙄 'Ramona' doesn't sound like a name from the 18th century...😉
The animals preferred to stay in the backpack today. It was too damp outside. 😊
General note on the halfway mark: You meet Austrians in every corner of Latvia and Lithuania! Today, a large tour bus from Tulln checked in at the hotel.🚌🇦🇹 Retirees, a very funny group...😏
