Cham Island is a small group of islands near Hoi An. We booked a night at a really cool & new homestay (Coral), where we were also assisted with the ticket for the speedboat (400,000 dong round trip per person). I think during the high season it would be easy to buy tickets yourself since many more boats operate. We were there during the rainy season, and tourists are advised against visiting the island at this time, which suited us perfectly. However, if bad weather is expected, I would avoid a trip. Due to the rainy season, a maximum of one speedboat operates per day, meaning that with bad weather, none runs - so you can't leave. We were lucky, and the boat took us over at 8 AM. Unfortunately, it went straight back afterward, so we had to return to the mainland the next morning at 8:30 AM.
The downside of the low season turned out to be our greatest luck. We were the only tourists on the entire island at night! Even in the afternoon, we only saw a few excursion boats; otherwise, there were just a few locals.
The island is extremely densely forested, and there is officially a road around the island... However, with the rented scooters, it is not possible to circumnavigate the island. We tried for a long time (many stones and extremely damaged road sections), but eventually, the whole road washed out in a steep section. But no one told us that :D If anyone attempts it - just turn back if you don't feel comfortable - you can't get around!
A quick story about dinner. Of course, we were the only ones in our accommodation. After ordering the food, our hostess went with her scooter to fetch the ingredients and came back with her mom to cook for the three of us....
It was truly an experience on Cham Island!
