The flavors of Andalusia

Lolomiina: 18.12.2021

Tarifa was a beautiful highlight and marked the end of my journey for now. In a few days, I will take a flight from Malaga to Germany to spend Christmas with my loved ones.

On the second-to-last day, following Víctor's recommendations, I visit two beautiful Andalusian villages - Gaucín and Casares. In Gaucín, there is a small market on Saturdays where I buy fresh fruits and vegetables for the last time and make persimmon jam with orange, lemon, cinnamon, and chia seeds.

On the way to Casares, I stop at the cheese factory at the entrance of the town. The region is known for its goat cheese, which comes from the Payoya goat. So today, I sweeten my breakfast with goat yogurt and chestnut jam.

The camper van parking offers a great view of the white village, which is filled with Christmas music. The afternoon sun occasionally breaks through the clouds. The falcons take advantage of the strong wind to soar in circles.

In the evening, I want to go out for dinner and drive into the village. Although the outdoor section of the restaurant is very crowded, there are only two men sitting at the table next to me inside. They invite me to join them. I am delighted by the spontaneous company for dinner. And the presentation of the food exceeds my expectations for this evening.

Phew, the night is quite windy, the bus jerks from time to time, and I get very little sleep. In the morning, I leave early to go straight to the Baños Romanos de la Hedionda.

Although these springs are not hot, with a water temperature of about 21 degrees Celsius, they are quite pleasant for bathing. I immediately feel connected to nature again and go on a beautiful hike through the rocky Sierra.
