From Napier to Hawke's Bay/Gisborne Peninsula

Lolomiina: 25.11.2022

24.11.22

Waking up to an ocean view...what could be better.

Sunrise Napier

We are starting early morning towards Hawke's Bay.

The weather looks dangerous again.

We have breakfast again on a black sandy beach along the way.

After a short stop at Lake Tutira,

we pass by Raipunga

and Wairoa

to Mahia Peninsula. Mahia was originally an island and over the years it became a peninsula due to sand accretion. Beautiful but also a dance with death here. Mahia Beach is said to be very popular among the Kiwis, only that there is not a single one here🫣

Actually, we wanted to take a hike through the rainforest and test the thermal springs at Morere Spring Scenic Reserve, but unfortunately everything is closed here due to staff shortages...very sad ☹️

we continue to Gisborne, where we stock up on groceries.

We find a beautiful spot to spend the night at Macorori Beach.

At first, we are alone at the kilometer-long sandy beach. Later, a few other campers join, but it is much emptier here than before.

We take an extensive beach walk (warm weather is something else)

and we sit in the van in the evening because it is too cold outside.

But we don't want to complain because we fall asleep under a fantastic starry sky and with the sound of the ocean.

However, I wonder if campervans can fly... it's so windy here💨💨
