Go Roller Go

On Friday of our second week, we started our tour. The first stop was Ubud, which is known for art, yoga, and good food. I thought there was already a lot going on in Canggu on the streets. But as we slowly moved out of our comfort zone, I realized that wasn't the case... At the first multi-lane intersection where we wanted to turn right from the crowded main road (which is equivalent to turning left for us), I had the thought that maybe this wasn't such a good idea... But somehow we made it to Ubud and stayed at a painter's place in a small guesthouse.

The next day, we went to the market in Ubud, which is a well-known tourist attraction. It was accordingly crowded... From Ubud, we drove over the mountains to Singaraja, where we wanted to meet up with friends of Pam and Mitch. The higher we went, the shittier the weather became. But the view made up for it all.

We spent Sunday with Sasja, Mira, and Mara, three girls from Canggu. Sasja is from the Netherlands but has been living in Bali for a while now. Mira is Balinese, and Mara is from Java in Indonesia.

In the morning, we drove to a nearby national park. There were several waterfalls and natural pools here. The water was icy cold but refreshing and crystal clear.

As we made our way to the mountains in Bedugul, it started raining. It wasn't a problem for the girls in the car, but it was shitty for us on the scooter because we didn't have a cover on our helmets and couldn't see anything in the heavy rain. I was also afraid of slipping on the curvy roads with the scooter. So we took a break and waited for the rain to stop.

On the mountain, we made a stop at a swing where you can take photos with a panoramic background. Since it's a well-known photo spot, there were incredibly many people here, but the girls really wanted a photo. So we waited... I had to pay double the price compared to everyone else there, probably because I was obviously a tourist!

In the late afternoon, we said goodbye to the girls and drove to Lovina in the north of the island.
