We thought we were coping well with the new times, but we were proven wrong. Mom was right and we had a “Letjag”. Tonight Ronja gave us another vocal performance with My Heart will go on by Celine Dion, known from Titanic. In the morning the alphabet was sung several times and we had a lot of laughs. It's easier and nicer to just take everything with humor anyway.
We had breakfast again in the café from yesterday; today we had waffles and pancakes. Even though the washing machine in our accommodation doesn't smell particularly pleasant, we risked washing our smelly laundry with lots of detergent for the first time - successfully.
Today we were on a boat on the canals of Bangkok. After we first thought we could just sit in, but were then sent away three times, we went looking for a ticket booth. At some point we found a lovely man who enlightened us. 45 minutes for 300 baht (8€) per person was relatively expensive, we found. And this probably wasn't the first rip-off we've let slip through. But the boat ride was totally worth it! We had fresh wind around our noses, a few sprinkles of dirty water on our skin and really nice visibility! Behind a corner we saw a huge golden Buddha, that was our highlight. In general, the trip made us incredibly happy! We realized that we should just talk to people when we don't know what to do next. Everyone is totally helpful, even if many locals don't speak English. You will then be directed to someone who can help.
In general, the people here are really friendly and very grateful. When you smile, they smile back. We don't feel uncomfortable at all.
Afterwards we put anklets on ourselves. Ronja has fallen in love with a new bracelet with lucky stones, which she now wears on her right wrist. Looks great on her!
After a mini portion of rice we went back to Surkhumvit, where we visited a rooftop bar. On the 33rd floor we really enjoyed the cocktails with a beautiful view. We had to pay a lot for this again, we paid €10-12 per cocktail. Phew.
Because the prices for the food there were too high for us, we went to another restaurant. We were approached by a nice waiter on the street and sat down. The menu offered many vegetarian dishes and options. Our decision fell on the truffle pasta (€9 each). This was by far the most expensive day for us so far. And in the end we had a stomach ache. But we also have a lot to digest first.
Tomorrow we continue, off to the Süüüüüüden!
We find it really different how people live and live here. Everything is loud and the houses we passed today were full of garbage. The canal is just dirty, the kids who jumped in for fun didn't seem to mind. There is trash in the water everywhere. The fish that live in it, are fed with bread and caught are certainly full of plastic. We passed a “hairdresser” that you only saw at second glance what it was about. All the street food stands... It feels like a different world, but it is “just” a country on the other side of the world. I am now becoming more and more aware of the standard of living we live in in Germany.
Now it's 12 o'clock again and we can't sleep.
Well, it will work at some point. See you in the morning.
