We are starting our road trip

Lolomiina: 31.12.2016

Our road trip starts in the supermarket. 5Kg rice, spaghetti, fusilli, etc. There are sauces from canned goods. Everything that is cheap and lasts long. We do have a fridge, but no ice packs. It doesn't matter anyway, because we couldn't charge or freeze them.

After that, finally out of the city and into nature. The New Zealand we are all here for.

Some of us have been living and working in Christchurch for over six months, others, like me, have only been there for a week, but we all feel like we have been in the city for too long.

First, we are going to Banks Peninsula.

Afterwards, back to the vicinity of Christchurch and the next day to Lake Tekapo and Pukaki.

We try to spend as little money as possible on our trip because the less we spend, the more we can travel. That's why we camp on free campsites whenever possible.

By the way, the mountain in the middle is Mount Cook.

The water in both lakes looks different in pictures than it actually is, but it is incredibly turquoise.

Also interesting about Lake Tekapo and Pukaki is that it is located in a Dark Sky Reserve. A lot is done to prevent light pollution in such an area, and as a result, you can see a lot of stars at night. We were lucky to have a night with no clouds, only stars.

How we celebrated Christmas and where else we were will be covered in the next blog. Right now, I am in Dunedin and I am looking forward to traveling to the Catlins (even further south) next year.

See you then :-)
