Sydney is a place of longing for us since a 3-day stopover in 1997. It took us 25 years to come back here (not counting layovers at the airport), and we were curious to see how it looks today.
The journey was quite scary. Insane traffic, can't move at all, and everything is simply confusing and crowded. We had to find our way around the hustle and bustle of the city before we could start feeling comfortable.
All in all, Sydney is an interesting city with many beautiful spots. Like all Australian cities we know, it combines old and new buildings and many green areas, even in the city center. However, compared to our memory, it has lost something - it has become louder, more hectic, more crowded, and more confusing, which has made it lose some of its charm for us.
Of course, the Sydney Opera and the Harbour Bridge still stand out (this time we climbed up to the flags on top - in the end, we stand 136m above the water, looking down at the Opera, which is exactly half as high). But we also liked the ferry pier (Circular Quay), Darling Harbour, and the neighborhood 'The Rocks' very much.
