8th Day: from Samereau to Jargeau

Lolomiina: 06.09.2022

After surviving the storm in the tent, we should have been able to rest at night - but far from it: a lantern that turned on and off every 30 seconds and was located right next to our non-light-proof tent became more and more prominent as dusk fell.

We felt a bit reminded of torture methods. The campsite was already very spartanly furnished, but there were roommates at one or two places.

But at some point sleep overcame us (can you still say that today? Did Angelika also get overcome by sleep?) - esteemed reader, of course you have the right not to want to read on - I will neither gender nor abolish the generic masculine in the following texts.

That's it.

So dismantle the tent, prepare for the first break and off we went. Fontainebleau Castle was the first on the agenda. The French kings and emperors lived and worked here until Napoleon III, in 1814 Napoleon had to abdicate here, that was a nice idea by the united victors.

The facilities are huge and beautiful, the buildings no less huge. However, the number of chimneys suggests that central heating is not installed. If I understood correctly, the current head of the French also likes to receive state guests in Fontainebleau. However, they should come by car, as cycling on the premises is not allowed...

Then we drove through the forest, then across huge plateaus used for agriculture, where no tree could withstand the strong winds.

Huge forest areas followed on the way to the Loire, which we recently reached in Jargeau.
