Verloren in Medellin

Lolomiina: 23.01.2017

After an hour-long flight, we arrived in Medellin. The three of us had slept the entire flight. We reached our hostel after a short bus and taxi ride.

We were able to store our luggage and started exploring the city right away.

What made me the happiest was that my friends Kevin and Vanessa from Switzerland were also in Medellin with Vanessa's cousin, and we met up for lunch.

It felt good to speak Swiss German and have deeper conversations after a long time.

We visited the botanical garden and spent a beautiful day together.

Sohrob, who always liked getting lost, was also missing during this outing. The doors of the metro closed in front of his face and we were all already inside.

We could hardly believe that it happened to him again, Sohrob lost in Medellin!

We waited for him at the next stop and luckily found him again.

In the evening, we planned to go out together, but we ended up sleeping through the night after a 'little' nap.

The next day, we met Vanessa, Kevin, and Carlos again for lunch, and then they continued their journey while we explored Medellin. We took the metro, which suddenly turned into a cable car, and had a beautiful view of the entire city. We could have gone one station higher, but Elle and I preferred to see more of the city. However, Sohrob had already decided to continue and once again he was lost in Medellin.

We met again at the hostel in the evening.

On the next and last day in Medellin, we went shopping again.

Roby, our shopping slave

Our flight was at 8:30 PM, so we left the hostel at 5:30 PM using Uber to get to the airport bus stop. There was a lot of traffic, and we got stuck. Elle said that if there were no extra stops, we would easily arrive on time.

Just as she said this, she realized that she had forgotten her backpack in the hostel.

So, we had to drive back through heavy traffic halfway to get her backpack.

When we arrived at the bus stop, a guy was already waiting for us, trying to convince us to take a shared taxi. I had a bad feeling about him from the beginning, and my gut feeling has never betrayed me. He said it would only cost 4 dollars more than the bus. Since we were in a hurry, I let the others convince me to go with him.

But once we had our luggage in the taxi, he demanded much more money than agreed before.

We grabbed our luggage and ran back to the bus.

We were in a very tense mood, as we were the only ones on the bus with another guy who seemed unpleasant to Elle. I had my pepper spray ready, but luckily didn't have to use it.

We arrived at the airport in Medellin unharmed and on time. Next stop, SANTA MARTA!
