Highlight of the day: Still fit and even faster than a snail. 🤣
Today, I achieved various goals: 1. Left Lake Neuchâtel behind me.
2. Crossed the Röstigraben back into German-speaking Switzerland.
3. Returned to the originally planned route in Aarberg.
I started particularly early today. I was alone and had a longer distance ahead of me. Furthermore, I woke up early and the wanderlust was driving me.
Regarding the distance that Komoot calculated for me, I saw some potential for shortening. For example, I couldn't imagine walking along a railway line to the crossing and coming back to the same spot on the other side. There were also corners in the route where I could see room for optimization on the map. Overall, I was able to save about 3 km.
The first kilometers continued where we left off yesterday. The only difference was that the sun was still low and I felt compelled to take some photos.
The path abruptly ended when I came across the Broye Canal. This canal connects Lake Murten with Lake Neuchâtel. When crossing the canal on a bridge, a cyclist greeted me in Bernese German. So the French-speaking part was definitely behind me. This is what the Röstigraben looks like! It is almost like a line without a transition.
The hiking trail followed the canal for quite some time until I reached Seeland. The vegetable garden of Switzerland, as they say.
Most of the fields were still brown or were just being prepared. I didn't see much of the vegetables.
Then I felt the desire for a restaurant, but there was nothing in sight, and the villages were all far away or their restaurants were closed. Tuesday and Wednesday are often the days when restaurants are closed here.
Since I couldn't find a decent accommodation offer in Aarberg, I ended up in Bargen directly on the other side of the Aare River.
Here I arrived surprisingly early and there is also a restaurant just 3 houses away.
