Island life over the last few days has been quite frugal and staying here has slowed things down noticeably. I'm not sure if I've ever moved as slowly as I have here in my life... But hey, it's just not fast here. Basically we commute between the pool and the sandy beach with stops at the restaurant and the first bar we find - we're not picky. ;-)
Since Dirk had forgotten his cell phone while playing golf on Lombok, he and Manu went to the large neighboring island again. Collecting the cell phone went smoothly - nothing gets lost here. The two of them took the opportunity to go on a quick tour of the island by scooter, including a comparison of the beaches.
The small, narrow streets offer plenty of shops and feeding troughs for tourists. Since there are no cars or motorbikes on the Gilis, people move around on foot, by horse-drawn carriage, by bike or small e-scooters. This creates an even more relaxed feeling and plenty of peace and quiet. During our walks on the beach, we were able to see huge sea turtles in the water and on the beach. The clear, clean water here ensures perfect visibility. Our two young soccer artists regularly amaze people on the beach and encourage the locals to join in. However, we passed up the late-night invitation to a soccer game on the local field...we had other plans.
The weekly highlight was on Friday evening. It was beach party time. The party animals of the group around Dirk, Luis, Mara and me got the sandy dance floor going. Hands up, it's the weekend. Barefoot, full throttle and no half measures. To cool down, we went into the sea again on the way home. It should only be mentioned in passing that Saturday got off to a somewhat bumpy start.
So, now we're on the home stretch...three days left. The vacation clock is ticking away.
Tick Tock!
