26.02.2020 u. 27.02.2020, Violence in School

Lolomiina: 18.03.2020

During painting, I can always observe the Ga lesson of my host mother as she always gives lessons outside under the mango tree. However, unfortunately, I have already witnessed twice how children are being beaten at school. So far, I have not experienced or thought that violence is only threatened but not executed.
But apparently, this is not the case...

Most teachers have a stick that they only use to hit the table to make the children quiet. Unfortunately, my host mother also uses it
for other purposes. The first time I witnessed this, she hit several children on the buttocks because they did not complete the tasks correctly.

The second time, a student came to school late despite a warning and then received blows on the palms of the hands. The girl cried very hard afterwards
and for me, it was really shocking to witness that. I didn't actually look at both incidents and only heard the sounds, which was terrible enough for me.
For me, it's really unbelievable that such methods are being used. Today, a girl had to sit upright on her knees for the entire class hour in another teacher's class.
But so far, I haven't dared to talk to a teacher about it, because I really have no idea how they would react...
Let's see if I will do that, they probably won't change the methods anyway. But today everything was surpassed...

In the morning at 7:30 a.m., the children gather in the school yard every morning to pray and sing together. But this morning, for reasons that I unfortunately did not
understand, some of the children were punished quite heavily with several blows to the calves. Probably 30 children were beaten before school even started. However, this time not by my host mother but by 3 other female teachers.

After school, the students had to gather again in the school yard because the teachers announced some things regarding the mid-term breaks tomorrow.
However, the children had to sit upright on their knees and then my host mother walked around and hit every single student multiple times with her stick, with full force.
I am still totally shocked and bewildered, and when I was alone in my room later, I also had to hold back a tear or two.
In the first few weeks, I didn't see anything like this at all, but suddenly it keeps happening.
