Day 3 - Making New Friends in Kuala Lumpur

Publikovaný: 10.03.2023

The third day started off relaxed. With the aim of finding a "normal" breakfast, we left the hotel. Mission failed. We got milk buns filled with cheese and chicken curry. It could have been expected that it wouldn't taste good.

More or less nourished, we made our way to the bus station. From there, we headed to Kuala Lumpur. After only 3 hours, we arrived in the capital of Malaysia.

Once again, we took a Grab to our hotel. The SCC Hotel Chinatown is located in the city center of Kuala Lumpur, on Petaling Street, and as the name suggests, right in the heart of Chinatown. There was already a busy atmosphere when we arrived. The room was small but very neat. The shared bathroom and a small kitchen were located in the hallway. We were satisfied. After putting down our belongings, we immediately started an exploration tour.

Back on Petaling Street, we encountered many small stalls with shoes, handbags, souvenirs, and diverse finger foods. After a short time and a small taste test, we were approached by a local. He was greatly impressed by our incredibly trained bodies (no joke).

After trying to persuade us for 10 minutes to open a fitness studio in Kuala Lumpur, we were able to convince him, after a short discussion, that we were actually just here on vacation. Nevertheless, he was so excited about us that he not only gave us a bunch of tips for our activities but also took 3 selfies with us. The first new friend.

So we finally set out to follow all his tips and recommendations. We started with the Central Market and the Bird Park, the largest free-flight bird park in the world. It was only a 40-minute walk away. However, when we arrived, the high prices scared us off. Birds are not that great after all. Erik treated himself to a coconut for consolation. Good idea, but bad timing. The coconut attracted the attention of uninvited guests. Two minutes later, Erik found himself in a duel with a wild monkey. Erik won narrowly. However, we made peace and watched the monkey family for another half an hour (more new friends). It was definitely a spectacular encounter.

From there, we made our way back to the hotel. The long walk took us through different neighborhoods and gave us many impressions.

After a short break at the hotel, we headed to the Petronas Twin Towers, the next destination on our list. The sight of the illuminated skyscrapers was spectacular. We then went to the Jalan Alor Streetfood Market. It is known for its diverse culinary offerings, which we of course tested extensively.

Satisfied and full, we took the way back home. New daily distance record: 18 kilometers. Upon arriving at the hotel, we went to bed promptly, as the next day was going to start early.
