Our Montenegro trip begins and today it turns out we had no idea what to expect! Naively, we assumed that no one else knows as little about Montenegro as we do and therefore no one would be here who is not also just passing through. Well, two large cruise ships quickly proved us wrong...
We wake up in the announced rain in the Bay of Kotor and are reminded of how much easier camping with a baby is in good weather :D (Side note from Hansi, who washed the dishes with freezing cold water at the open-air sink with an umbrella stuck in the back of his collar)
We stop in every town on the way to Kotor to keep travel times short for Heidi. The first town convinces us directly with its main attraction: a huge park bench - very good. There is also a super beautiful church, nice streets, and a pekara (bakery) - we are immediately in love! There are super cheap chocolate croissants, sweet white bread to Hansi's taste, and a lot of börek for little money.
Heidi continues to be the absolute star in her awake phases, sitting on Papa's shoulder or in Mama's arms! We are (well, Heidi) beamed at from all directions, little hands are shaken, and here even an older gentleman gives a big kiss on the arm 😄
The second town, Perast, is not as small as we thought, but with its two islands and almost exclusively consisting of Venetian villas, it is really a major tourist attraction with upscale restaurants and its own cake specialty (almond, lemon, lots of sugar AND a bargain for only 8€ 🤯).
Continuing along the shoreline to Kotor itself, we find a great parking spot right by the bay overlooking the city, the fjord-like "bay", and the cruise ships. Heidi slept during the drive. Slowly but surely, she is getting really good at falling asleep in the car. Independently, she takes her thumb and falls asleep 🤩 (of course not always 😉).
We spread out the picnic blanket and Heidi rolls happily. Our trip is truly wonderfully relaxed thanks to these agenda items, and it's really nice. Afterwards, we stroll through the old town: many medieval narrow streets, a beautiful city wall, cafes and bars, and countless cats everywhere. Some would say it's a cat problem, but not here, here they are also depicted on all souvenirs and part of the sights. The next day, we climb up to the castle high above the city with breathtaking views, right on time for Heidi's naptime. Despite the cruise ship tourism, we can say: Super beautiful! On the way back, we sit down for a moment to show Heidi a cat and she jumps straight onto our laps to admire and 'pet' it. Animals are slowly becoming more and more fascinating to her and it seems incredibly fascinating to her 😍
Delightfully satisfied, we continue north towards the mountains and Heidi the champion falls asleep again in the car, as if nothing happened. We can even both sit in the front of the car and admire the beautiful mountainous landscape! It's the little things...🙃
