Stopover in Depansar

After our hot stay in Singapore, we planned our onward journey and arrived in Bali yesterday.

After an exhausting flight, where I had to calm down Gianna instead of the other way around, we still arrived safely in the capital Depansar! Seeing the pilot in a hoodie and baseball cap when disembarking didn't surprise me somehow 😅

From now on, the world was different. At first, the taxi for a 30-minute ride was supposed to cost 30 Swiss francs, but quickly negotiated down to 13.—. Probably still too expensive 💴!

On the way, hordes of motorcycles and scooters crossed our path. "Crossed" is a slight understatement! It seems as if the heavens have thrown all their guardian angels down to Bali, that's how the traffic works shocked me at first!! There was pushing, honking, cutting off, and driving on the sidewalk... But it works! Very interesting to watch, but also very dangerous..So we decided against renting a scooter 😉

The journey with backpacks is working fine so far. For the flights, we pack them in large bags to protect the buckles and the backpack. 🎒 In smaller bags (pink and gray), we store all the clothes and can easily take out the whole package in the accommodation. Pretty cool 👌

So what did we do in Depansar? Not much, we only arrived at the hotel around 6 p.m. and then had a quick meal and settled in. The outrageously expensive burger 🍔 tasted good! It cost a whole 20,000 rupiah, which is 1.30 in Swiss francs 😅

This suits me quite well because those who know me know that I can be quite difficult when I'm hungry! Unfortunately, I get hungry quite often, so we spend a lot of time in restaurants or supermarkets 😜 This morning it was also very exciting to see how 6 people prepare our breakfast. How this should be profitable at a price of 2.70 francs including drinks is a mystery to us. Culture shock ahoy! 👋🏼

Food in the gourmet temple!

The people here in Depansar are very friendly, everyone smiles and greets you, and a policeman stopped all the traffic (!) so we could cross the street 😃. Dear Venetians and Croatians, take note!

What is also found everywhere are many small shrines for the gods and bowls with offerings (unfortunately, I don't have a photo yet). Most of them are filled with colored rice, a cigarette, a cookie, and incense sticks.

And in front of the houses, there are usually small sweet dogs. If it continues like this, it is quite possible that we will come home as a trio 😜 🐕 However, this one would still have to be trained, because every evening these dogs bark half the night in competition 😡

Tomorrow, Saturday, we will continue to the neighboring island of Nusa Lembongan! We will find a speedboat there and hopefully arrive in a less populated area. 🌴 🌊 🐟
