Chiang Mai to Pai

For this, like many other tourists, I had to conquer the 762 curves over the hills with the mini van. And it was actually the very first time in my life that I felt a little sick during the ride. After 3 hours, I finally reached the small but touristy town of Pai. But my accommodation, with its beautiful peaceful bungalow, was located one kilometer outside of town. There were also some bicycles that had seen better days, more suitable for teenagers in size, but I could move around quite quickly.

Mae Yun and Hua Chang Waterfall

Two quite beautiful waterfalls worth visiting, especially for the final cooling off. I started hiking to the Mae Yun Waterfall in Pai, the path led out and became smaller and quieter until you found yourself in the jungle, the path continued here for another good 6 kilometers always along a small river that you had to wade through several times. Which of course contributed to the pleasant cooling off. In the last 2 kilometers, it went steeply uphill over a mountain. Of course, today also provided the necessary hardship. But when we finally arrived at the waterfall, the clear water provided delightful refreshment. On the way back, I skipped the mountain and simply walked directly in the riverbed for the first 1.5 kilometers. After another 2 hours, I was already back in Pai.

Two days later, I took the Hua Chang Waterfall as my destination for the day. Which went much faster. Since you can drive most of the way by bicycle, in my case, otherwise with a scooter. The path then only took an hour and here too, you were rewarded with a beautiful cool waterfall.

Kho Ku So Bamboo Bridge

There I went again with my great bicycle, which worked great downhill but always slowed me down uphill. I tried to conquer the inclines while standing, but when the chain started making strange noises as if it was about to break, I decided it was better to push uphill. So it was a bike-hiking trip. The goal was the 12 kilometers away Bamboo Bridge. It is situated very idyllically amidst rice fields with a small temple at the end in the forest. Back in Pai, I also visited the towering Big Buddha, which unfortunately has seen better days, but still worth a visit with a great view from up here.

The Walking Street in Pai is very touristy but suitable for an evening visit. Especially to fill your belly, Yummi.
