... that's definitely how you can summarize today.
My first stop today was in Kawakawa, where there are toilets. Very interesting toilets. Hundertwasser toilets. Hundertwasser, who designed or constructed the house in Vienna, the station in Magdeburg, the train station in Ulzen, and the school in Wittenberg. Hundertwasser lived near Kawakawa from 1973 and gave these toilets to the city as a gift. These toilets definitely stand out. Many tourists stop there and take a look. They enjoy the unusual style and laugh about it. But hardly anyone knows what to do with Hundertwasser. I asked a few toilet users if they knew the artist. They all said no...
After the toilet stop, I continued. I read somewhere that there is an old pa on the way to Whangarei where you can still see the structures quite well. So I made a stop there to take a look. The Ruapekapeka pa was a fairly large pa and is located on top of a hill. From there, you have an incredible view of the surrounding area. In the pa itself, you can see many holes and trenches, which were mainly built for defense. The pa was surrounded by 2 rows of wooden fences between 3 and 5m high.
