Distances

Today it is rainy, a good time to write while Martin is watching ski jumping on TV. Some of you may be wondering why we are not traveling more and reporting from the country of Peru. Since Martin has a work assignment here, we have not had the opportunity to do anything outside of Lima. But that's okay. We had the opportunity to visit Bolivia (La Paz) and Peru from Chile in 1985 and we were at Lake Titicaca, in Cusco, Machu Picchu, Arequipa, and Lima. We also know the desert well; now we just need the rainforest. And hopefully we will fly there on the 79.1. And our trip to Chile in February is planned. We hope that Corona doesn't spoil our plans. By the way, Chile has the highest vaccination rate in the world at 90%.

Yesterday I visited the markets with lots of handicrafts again. Although they are in the next district, it took me over an hour to walk and take the bus. That's nothing for Lima. It can also take 2-3 hours to get anywhere.

And here are some comparisons of distances with those in Europe: The distance from Lima to Valdivia, Chile is 4112 km, to Puerto Montt (where we also want to visit a friend) it is 4300 km. That is equivalent to the distance from the North Cape to Rome. I think this often goes unnoticed in Germany. We will fly to Santiago, spend a few days with Andreas' godfather, and then probably continue by bus to Valdivia. But we're not there yet.
