Mérida I Yucatán

شايع ٿيل: 05.03.2019

The capital of the state and the eponymous Yucatán Peninsula is Mérida. Once an ancient Mayan city, the buildings have been gradually used for the construction of the New Spanish settlement since the 16th century. Today, nothing of it remains. However, Mérida is a prime example of Spanish-Latin American settlement structure.

The overall ensemble of the city center is impressive, although unfortunately somewhat run down in many places. Virtually every building dates back to the colonial period.

However, the climate is extremely hot and humid. Therefore, it is advisable to take a city stroll only in the evening or very early in the morning.

We discover a Bavarian brewhouse. Unfortunately, the Augustiner beer is sold out and I have to settle for Spaten. It doesn't taste great at home, so it's not any better in Mexico. The culinary part is canceled, as the waiter realizes after half an hour that dogs are not allowed. Unfortunately, this is a phenomenon that only exists in tourist areas. Dogs not allowed...no one else really cares.
