Time goes by too fast and I have to say goodbye to my Canadian friends once again. I had an incredible week in Saskatoon. It was great to be back and even better to have the opportunity to stay with a Canadian family. Thank you so much for letting me be a part of your wonderful family, Berlin, Branda and Brooklyn! I hope you will come to Germany one day and give me the possibility to return the favor.
'Everyday go out of your way to do something kind' - I found this written on the family's fridge and there is no better way to express the Canadian way of life. What makes Canada and particularly Saskatoon so special to me are mostly the people. You're surrounded by politeness, kindness and smiling people that seem to appreciate their lives.
Saskatoon is a beautiful city but it can get quite cold in the winter. Temperatures went down to - 41°C with windchill. Nevertheless the blue sky and the sunshine were making up for it. You could think there is not much to do in the cold, so here a short summary of our activities: Ice skating, rock climbing, trampoline park, the new art gallery (not too impressive), farmers market, walks with the dog(s), movie theater, cake cake cake, mysterious zebra puzzle - still unsolved, shopping in the bulk barn - my favorite store where you can fill up nuts and candy yourself, reunions, ... Moreover, every day we were watching the winter Olympics (figure skating is my favorite) and good for us that Canada and Germany belonged to the leading nations. One more highlight to mention: Berlin and me played (oboe and violin) with the Saskatoon Philharmonic Orchestra in which we had played together years ago.
Have a look at my pictures too ;)
