#32 On the windy trail of Dalí

December 1-2, 2021: Cadaqués

F. In the past few days, we somehow neglected to research the new destinations more closely, so we simply drove to Cadaqués without much anticipation, which was a recommendation from Elena's mother. The route to Cadaqués turned out to be a beautiful winding road through the foothills of the Pyrenees.

Cadaqués itself is a beautiful small town where all the houses are painted white and the very flat roofs give the impression that the port city is completely white.

In addition to the beauty of the city and its surroundings, Cadaqués is a special attraction for all fans of the artist Salvador Dalí. He lived on the outskirts of the city for a while, and various paintings by him feature motifs from the area.

The next day, we left Cadaqués and its famous former roommate behind and hiked from our parking spot to the lighthouse at Cap de Creus. This marks the easternmost point of mainland Spain. It went through a rocky mountain landscape with many cacti and some olive plantations.

Arriving at the lighthouse, we were almost blown back into the olive plantations. There was such strong wind that in some places we had to lean forward to avoid falling or getting blown over.

In a corner at the lighthouse, we enjoyed our lunch in the shelter of the wind and then made our way back to our car through the national park. However, we couldn't completely escape the wind, and it seemed like we had brought it back to the parking lot. Our weather app predicted strong winds with gusts of up to 80 km/h for the night. Although we don't have an anemometer, our van rocked quite violently overnight. This storm didn't bother our local neighbors, though. The next morning, the three wild boars were once again searching for food in the parking lot, just as they had been the previous evening.

Day 47 - Total tour 3,840 km
