03. to 04.12. Dream Island Koh Lipe

شايع ٿيل: 04.12.2018

My blog is turning 50. What a fantastic anniversary and what wonderful days and posts hopefully still to come.

Yesterday, on December 3rd, we headed from Hat Yai to the southern coast of Thailand in the morning, where a speed ferry took us to the dreamy island of Koh Lipe within two hours. With its maximum width of about 2.5 kilometers, the island is really peaceful, but just what we need after the rather cool north. The island presented itself at our arrival from its best side: turquoise sea with the characteristic colorful long-tail boats and in the background, white beaches adorned with palm trees.

We were hot during the boat ride, even on the way to our hostel. But when we got out of the hostel, relieved to have dropped off our luggage, a sad gray cloud cover greeted us. We walked down the "main street" of the small town on our way to the beach, but then it started pouring rain.

We had met two nice Austrian girls on the speed ferry who were also staying in the same hostel as us and wanted to go to the beach with us. So we sat down together in a small restaurant, chatted, ate a bit, and waited for the rain to stop. However, it didn't completely stop, so we decided to brave the drizzle and head towards the beach, without the hope of being able to go swimming. Since it was naturally uncomfortable in the rain, we soon sought shelter under a roof, where we had dinner, checked out some smaller shops in town, and then went to a bar. Later in the evening, there was a nice call to Germany - it's always nice to hear from your loved ones back home.

The next morning, the sun welcomed us and after getting up and showering, we immediately went to Sunrise Beach (you never know how long the good weather will last), where we enjoyed our brought sandwiches, coffee, and cookies for breakfast. Since we woke up quite early, the beach was not crowded yet, and before our eyes unfolded a beach paradise with the already mentioned crystal-clear water and the soft white sandy beaches.

The sun was luckily in our favor today

I can't write anything else interesting now because we spent the rest of the day at this beach. We changed our spot once because more and more tourists arrived and waded through shallow water to reach a quieter bay where we could find refuge from the sun in the shade. There we read and looked at our upcoming destinations from late morning until early afternoon. Let us have a day of complete relaxation and doing nothing.

When we returned to our hostel in the afternoon, we didn't stay long and soon went on to Sunset Beach - yes, the names are very creative here. There we leisurely did what the name of the beach already suggested: admire the sunset. No sunset is the same as another, and today's was particularly remarkable in terms of colors, with orange, blue, gray, light red, and deep reddish pink all lying close together, framed by the dark clouds. As always, it was incredibly beautiful to watch the end of the day.

Where does something begin and end?

After the sunset, we ate at another small restaurant. Everything on this island is above average expensive. We also pay three times the price of a Vietnamese hostel for our accommodation, and breakfast was included there. Therefore, we choose cheaper options accordingly. However, the cheapest hostel on this island was so infamous, without air conditioning at 30 degrees, and allegedly without a proper roof, that even for me, this was too much, and we opted for a slightly higher price range.

We spent the rest of the evening at another beach, where I am now writing this post.

From more than nine and a half thousand kilometers away, I thank you once again for reading my blog after so many days and so much reading material. Now it's time to go back before the mosquitoes completely destroy me, and a day at the beach also makes you tired...
