After two days in Santiago we had seen most of the sights and headed towards Vina del Mar/Valparaiso.

The two adjacent coastal towns are located about 80 km from the Chilean capital. A total of around 650,000 people live there, mostly in colorful houses on the mountains surrounding the city.

We took the metro to the bus terminal and changed to a very comfortable long-distance bus, and the two-hour journey flew by. After checking in at our accommodation, we made our way to the sea and walked along the promenade of Viña del Mar. Unfortunately, it was very windy and swimming was out of the question.

We then took an Uber to Valparaiso, where we had booked another free walking tour for the afternoon.

The city stretches over more than 40 hills, some of which can be reached by ancient elevators, and is now home to many artists. It's no wonder that there is hardly an area in the city that isn't painted. Katha led us through the many small streets and told us about the history and political situation in Chile and Valparaiso.

We were regularly accompanied by the "community dogs", dogs that live on the streets but are cared for and looked after by the people of Valparaiso. Finally, Katha gave us a recommendation for traditional Chilean food. After the obligatory Pisco Sour on a roof terrace, we tried "Pastel del Choclo" - a sweet corn casserole and another dish that was very reminiscent of wedding soup. Once again completely full and tired from the great impressions, we headed back to our accommodation.
