Ring of Beara and the cable car over the wild Atlantic - 6 months in Ireland

شايع ٿيل: 08.05.2023

In the following week, I wanted to go with Laura to the Ring of Beara, the little brother of the Ring of Kerry in County Cork. Located in the west of Cork, we drive over serpentines and narrow roads to the only cable car on the Irish island.

The cable car connects the mainland with Dursey Island. But for now, let's go and so we drove for about 2 hours until we arrived in Glengarriff and started our first tour to Healy Pass in the mountains.

Passing infinite expanses of rubble dipped in green, we drove through the seemingly endless serpentines to the border of County Kerry. From up here, you have a beautiful panoramic view of the Kerry Mountains. The wind in this small gorge is not to be underestimated. I had some problems flying the drone here, but it was about to get worse...

From here our path led us over the narrow roads to the small sensation in Ireland. An offshore island accessible only by cable car. Riding over the wild Atlantic on a cable car, I can think of more relaxing things. But before we set off, we treated ourselves to a nice fish sandwich with fries.

Arriving in the wagon, we swayed our way towards the island, passing seagulls and puffins. The lonely island, which is home to only 54 people, is lined with sheep fields and hills. At the top waits a lighthouse for you, but we decided to go towards the hilly, undeveloped landscape.

A short hiking trail showed us the way past the cliffs and led us to a small windless place. I thought to myself, this could be the perfect spot for flying the drone. On the way towards the Atlantic, I already noticed that the wind outside is different than here in the windless gap.

'Far over there is America!'

Within minutes, my drone had drifted several hundred meters and I panicked that I had lost it for good. Fortunately, I came up with the idea to fly very close to the water surface, where the wind was not too strong, so I could come back. After a short cliff walk, we made a strange discovery. A poor cow had fallen off the cliffs and was trapped between rocks, poor thing.
