Caipis, Music & skimpy bikinis - Brazilian beach lifestyle. To test this out before Copacabana & Co, we made a stop in Floripa. A peninsula near the city of Florianopolis, known for its surfer beaches. Shortly after arrival, we head to Barra da Lagoa. It's pretty crowded here, and definitely not a paradise beach like in Thailand, but the atmosphere is great. As beginner surfers plunge into the waves, tanned bottoms wiggle in front of us. Young men push their cocktail stands on wheels along the beach, and they seem to be doing pretty well here! If you're hungry, you can either get something from the nearby beach bars/restaurants, or you can simply grab some grilled cheese, corn, or churros from the wandering vendors. We also decide to rent a surfboard, and after a few attempts, we figure out how to ride the wave (but lying down). After that, we soak up the sun a little more and jump through the wild waves. On day 2, we go to the beach again, but this time we don't rent a surfboard because the waves don't seem suitable. Instead, we lay in the sand like the Brazilians, enjoying a cocktail and the sun. Later, we also go into the water, but without a surfboard, and unfortunately, in the afternoon, a few clouds appear, so we make our way back home. The next day, we have to leave, and we would love to stay longer (and maybe take a surf course), but the weather doesn't cooperate, and it's supposed to rain for the next few days. Nevertheless, we don't miss out on the last sunny day and spend it at the beach before our bus continues to Sao Paulo in the evening! This time we go to Praia Joaquina. It's pretty crowded here too, the sand is white and fine, and the waves are lively. After a 20-minute walk in the blazing sun, we jump right into the water. The current here is much stronger than the past two days, and the waves are more suitable for advanced surfers. But they're still perfect for jumping over. Patrick doesn't want to leave, but after 1.5 hours, it's getting tiring to be carried away by every 3rd wave and get a complete salt rinse. Although dark clouds are already appearing in the background, the sun is still shining great for now and lasts longer than expected. To finish off, we go back into the waves, but then we decide to leave because the sky is slowly turning menacingly black. In any case, we've got the taste for it now, and a surf course in Europe is already on our to-do list.
