My goodness, it's cold...it's 5.5 degrees at 07:00 and it's summer!!! And Christoph was here in winter... Out for breakfast, writing on the blog takes time, I only leave the place around 10:00. 70 km eastwards in Lumsden I then reach SH6 leading north. At Kingston I reach Lake Wakatipu, on whose shore the famous Queenstown is located. This is New Zealand's center of outdoor fun action, from bungy jump to jetboat rides or heli-biking to tandem skydiving...with enough pocket money, everything is possible here....I refuel, buy some groceries and I'm already out of town. My destination is Glenorchy at the end of the nearly 80 km long lake. The landscape is beautiful, you can clearly see the mountains, some of them still covered in snow. No wonder parts of 'The Lord of the Rings' or 'The Chronicles of Narnia' were filmed here. Behind the small village it's another 30 km on gravel road to Paradise (yes, that's really its name, 3 houses), but that's it. Another road leads to the Routeburn Track (4-day hiking trail), but it's been closed since the heavy floods this year. I drive back cautiously, it would be really stupid to get a flat tire on the gravel, I have a spare tire, but no suitable wheel bolts (they're still at home), and the crack in the windshield is getting longer and longer. Tomorrow...let's see....
