Lawrence

Hello friends of the sun,

It's been a while since you've had an update, but I've experienced a lot since then and somehow there hasn't been a day when I haven't done a tour. Accordingly, there's a lot to catch up on. ;)

Let's start with my trip to Lawrence - a small old gold mining town that was recommended to me by a fellow camper in Duniden. This fellow camper is called Kevin, is around 70 and emigrated to Berlin, only to come back to New Zealand in the last two years to build a small home for him and his wife to live in. The reason I'm telling you so much about Kevin is because the world is a small place and when I drove to the campsite after my walk I drove past Kevin, who had just walked out of his house. I turned around and sure enough: It was Kevin. He then spontaneously showed me his house and what he was currently working on. Very interesting and just another nice coincidence on my trip.

My day started with a walk at Salt Burn Lake and a 30 km drive on a gravel road. But since I had already done almost half of it, I didn't want to turn around at the next bend and so I crept through New Zealand at 30 km/h - the view was really good. When I arrived in Lawrence, I treated myself to a quick muesli and then set off on the historic track of Gabriel's Gully. An old gold mine that used to produce a lot of gold. For this reason, all the banks on the way from Lawrence to Dunedin are really extremely beautiful and pompous, as this is where the gold was always temporarily stored.

There were a few of these explanatory bear boards all along the track, each of which had letters from contemporary witnesses on them - really, really cool!

After the walk, we made a spontaneous stop at Kevin's campsite. There was a food truck here and my dripping taste buds convinced me that today we wanted a fish and chips dinner with a classic ginger beer. Really delicious!

The entire campsite was very cute and I was able to watch the sunset very well here. The next morning I was able to sleep in (as there was no check-out time) and as it was quite foggy I took full advantage of that until we continued on to the coast.
