Mothers Day and Science Afternoon!!!

شايع ٿيل: 10.08.2019

Yesterday I woke up for the first time at the regular school time with the morning school bell. Then I had breakfast with all the children in the cafeteria at 7:30 a.m. Unlike in Germany, here they only have warm and savory meals at all times of the day. Accordingly, yesterday morning there were Asian noodles with meatballs, which was a little challenging because I didn't really feel like eating meat and spiciness at half past seven in the morning. Nevertheless, I talked to the children for the first time there, who showed me how to eat, pray, and wash my dishes at 5 different stations.

After that, it was time for the daily morning ceremony at eight o'clock. All children gather on the main square and after the prayer and the school dance, various information is shared (who cleaned what?, what is the program for today? and who is new at school? ....). This ceremony can last between ten minutes and one hour.

Then the lessons actually started. However, yesterday, on the occasion of the Thai Queen's birthday, Mother's Day was celebrated at school. The children prepared a big program and performed Thai dances and songs. In addition, all children thanked their teachers, as they are both teachers and parents to them.

As a highlight, a monk came to the school before lunch and sang and prayed with us. This ceremony also lasted one hour and then we all had lunch together.

After the afternoon nap, the science afternoon continued. All the children presented their projects that they had designed recently.

In addition, many games were played to keep the little ones busy, as everyone was present at the event. The youngest at the school are three and the oldest are twenty.

After the program, I had time to explore the school grounds. They consist of a main area with the cafeteria, kindergarten, classrooms, and the school office, as well as the principal's house. Adjacent to that are the volunteer area, the family houses where the children live, and the teachers' houses. There is also a large sports field and a garden.

It takes about twenty minutes to explore the grounds.

Afterwards, the four volunteers drove to the next village, Pom Kun, to buy our dinner there. The village is very small, but you can get the essentials and easily refuel your scooters.

That was also the last item on the agenda for this day!!!
