Rammang Rammang

شايع ٿيل: 30.09.2024

After a one-and-a-half-hour drive, Charlotte, Aaron, and I arrived in Rammang Rammang and, as promised, were able to drop off our luggage with Ismael and his wife. We then had three hours to explore the area a bit on our own and visited the Fireflies Cave and the Prehistoric Site. To reach the Fireflies Cave, you have to overcome a pile of garbage and two rather wobbly ladders, and then you don’t even find any glow worms! I already knew that the name comes from the stalactites that sparkle when illuminated with a flashlight, but I was still surprised at how beautiful it looks. Unfortunately, I couldn’t capture it well with the camera...

We almost didn’t find the Prehistoric Site because it is incorrectly marked on both Maps.me and Google Maps. Just as we were about to turn back, Charlotte spotted the sign that leads to the cave with handprints that are 15,000-20,000 years old. Inside the cave, the search for the handprints continued... I just wonder if they are really that old or if they are sometimes repainted.

After that, Ismael took us on a little boat tour to the Stone Forest, where there are beautiful karst formations, before we also looked at Kingkong Stone, which with a lot of imagination actually looks like King Kong, and the Crystal Cave. Just before it got dark, we boated to a spot where you can get a good view of a bat cave 100 meters high. Suddenly, a stream of bats came out of the cave, which did not stop for several minutes. Birds flew around the stream, often diving into it, presumably to catch bats.

Finally, we had dinner with Ismael before he took us to the night bus. On the bus, everyone had a small cabin to lie down in, complete with a blanket, pillow, and curtains, and even though we were constantly winding up and down, I managed to sleep quite well.
